Starting in 2026, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) will transition to digital maps for all Indiana State Parks. While paper maps have long been a trusted companion for park visitors, the shift to digital mapping opens the door to more powerful, accessible, and up-to-date tools for exploring our parks. The IDNR currently offers simple PDF versions of their traditional printed maps through their mobile app.
However, these existing PDFs were designed primarily for print and come with limitations in a digital environment. Trail alignments, roads, and facilities are often generalized, and location accuracy can vary—making them less effective for on-the-ground navigation. The maps are also not georeferenced so knowing current location is impossible. The comparison below illustrates how these challenges impact the user experience.

The new Johnson Cartographic Indiana State Park maps represent a major step forward. Designed specifically for digital use, these maps feature more precise trail, road, and facility placement and are fully georeferenced, allowing visitors to see exactly where they are within the park—even when offline. This makes them a powerful companion for hiking, exploring, and discovering everything each park has to offer.
These maps will be distributed for free through the Avenza Maps app. The app is free to download, and users can easily find each state park map by selecting a park from the maps below, searching within the app, or on the Johnson Cartographic vendor page.
Each map is offered at no cost with the goal of delivering high-quality cartographic products and enhancing visitor experiences across Indiana State Parks. As enthusiasm for this project grows, Johnson Cartographic LLC welcomes donations to help creation costs and potential field verification trips—ensuring these maps continue to improve and remain as accurate, detailed, and reliable as possible. No matter what, the maps will always remain free for public use.
